I LOVE The Strain. Don't eat while watching if you have a weak stomach.
Andrea texts me every week because she invariably ends up eating while
watching it. Not that she has a weak stomach or anything. She just
forgets and then regrets it.

Well, yeah. Not everything of course. And for about half of the season
you're going to be wondering what's up with those crazy cultists. We do
learn a little more, but damn.

Enjoy! I'm binging on Black Sails! I discovered that even though I don't
get Starz, I get Starz on Demand as part of my regular lineup. I'm SO
THRILLED! (I actually get every movie channel on demand as part of my
regular lineup. And this is the level I have to get if I want BBC
America. Which is one of the two reasons I switched to Fios in the first
place. The other being that the owners of Cablevision are scumsucking
idiots. At least I know Verizon is a huge company and they're not trying
to pretend they want to be my friend. And the service and picture are
way better anyway. And the price.)

I think The Strain starts over here on Wednesday night.

As long as I know that the show can be figured out eventually, I'm fine with it. Orphan Black was puzzling at first also, but I love it.

I honestly don't remember him from Six Feet Under, although that may change after I see the new show, and I've never seen Parks and Recreation, although I've heard good things about it. Neither of which I have seen. In fact, according to her IMDb page (fun fact: when I open a new window and start typing "www." the IMDb is the first option that pops up.  Guess I look at it a lot), the only thing she's been in that I might have seen her in was "Robot Chicken".  Which doesn't help.

But you've not seen Neverwhere based on Neil Gaiman's novel?

I haven't, and I might be wrong but I think you have the basis backwards; that is, that the novel is based on the series.

It's a BBC classic, with Paterson Joseph starring as the Marquis de Carabas. The crazy thing is that when I saw the film of Titus Andronicus starring Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange, I kept looking at the actress playing Lavinia, Laura Fraser, and finally remember why she seemed so familiar: she'd played Door in Neverwhere! Peter Capaldi was the Angel of Islington in Neverwhere.

I personally have never felt any real urge to see it, though I did give the DVD as a christmas gift a few years aback.

We get a number of HBO and Showtime programmes on either basic Sky/cable channels or freeview, such as Channel 4 or the Beeb. I sometimes forget that they are premium channels in North America. I never paid extra for them there myself.

And Wikipedia didn't mention the show's based on a book by Thomas

Well, I'm a North American-type, and I'm here in the House, but I don't
watch television at all at this time (no working set, and not missing it
so I haven't done anything about getting it fixed)(and no cable even
when I do have a working set)(and no Dr. Who at any time that I can
avoid it), so I hadn't noticed.

I don't recall the names of any of the four actors mentioned, though I
often don't notice actor's names, even of the shows that I like. I
don't ring any bells on the Marquis de Carabas, either. I did have a
"best" friend in High School whose surname was Brenneman, though I think
the first "n" was single. Her name wasn't Amy, though.

Sorry. If I'd known you cared, I'd have tried to find out and mention
what I'd found out.

Because Eccleston just never registers to me. (Remember, I don't watch
Dcotor Who.) And I wasn't familiar with Paterson Joseph, not actually
having seen Neverwhere.

It's a freaking weird show. I haven't had a chance to watch the season
finale yet.

they do not forget.

I have been a big Paterson Joseph fan since Neverwhere. I even watched Law and Order UK for him. I put up with the so-so first series of Survivors and its much better second series (it was cancelled at the end of the much better year, alas) just for him. I wanted him to be the next Dr. Who. (But I also like Peter Capaldi a lot.)

Why haven't any of you North American-type Tamson Housers mention that Christopher Eccleston AND Paterson Joseph (who will always live in my memory as the Marquis de Carabas :)) are in The Leftovers? It starts here on Tuesday night, and I had to learn the above from the Observer's TV guide.

(I knew that Amy Brenneman and Liv Tyler were in it, but I didn't know about Eccleston nor Joseph. Squee!)

Well, I've never heard of the show, and only one of the stars, so that would be why *I* didn't.  I don't know what any of the rest of these slackers have been doing.

also the notion of having 2 or more accounts is equally reasonable -- directed to its specific 'user group'

I think you'd need two email addresses - one for each Twitter account.
I have two accounts - by accident because when I was trying to set up
Twitter on my new android tablet I couldn't get it to accept my password
(even though it had just taken it on my android phone and my pc a few
minutes ago) so I ended up having to create a new account - and it
wouldn't let me do with the same email address.

Could I set up two accounts, most likely? One for students and one for me not as a teacher, that the students won't see? That probably would be my best bet. They just need the right music. Give 'em some torch songs or 17th Century
Russian court music, and they're singing is diving.

Nope, it was just a fluke.

PS. I am amazed. It's been over 12 hours since you posted that and there
hasn't been a single other fish-like pun. This may well have signalled the
imminent death of Tamson House.

(See, where I am, we don't have supply/substitute teachers unless someone's off for a while. So, I thought, maybe Facebook.

Nah, they don't do that much on Facebook, they said. They mostly use it for messaging people individually. Twitter would be better, they told me.

Those of you on Twitter -- how crazy is it? Might I have a personal feed and one just for students? Can I control who sees what?  From your personal experiences, do you like it?

CraigieFerg has mentioned that a few times. That could be why I've

Off to the small, indie film "Guardians of the Galaxy" tonight.  I've heard
