Which ones did the game use?

Oh, dozens.  One of the little side-quests is to collect the sheet music for various shanties around the towns and islands you visit.  Once you've collected the sheet music for a particular song, your sailors will add it to their rotation.  Some of the ones I knew already were Drunken Sailor, Spanish Ladies, Captain Kidd, Running Down to Cuba, Whiskey Johnny, and a version of the song I know as Captain Taylor, but with different lyrics and another name I can't remember right now.

It's been highly variable. It seemed to recover a season or two after that,
but then it tanked yet again. I think overall, the show would have been
better without Brennan.

Oh, it's very minimal. Let's see, what do the TV show and the books have in common?

The protagonist's name in both is Temperance Brennan and she's a forensic anthropologist.

That's it.

In the books, Tempe is older. She's divorced with a grown-up daughter and lives with a cat called Birdy. She splits her time between Montreal (she speaks fluent French and works at the Laboratoire des Sciences Judiciaires et de Médecine Légale) and North Carolina, where she teaches at the University of NC, Charlotte, and consults with the police on cases. (Birdy travels with her.) She has an off-on again relationship with a Montreal police officer and has to deal with issues from her ex (he's in NC), although their relationship tends to be amicable. The first book was set in Montreal, and they tend to switch back and forth a bit. I tend to prefer the Montreal books, but I don't mind the NC ones. Occasionally, she'll be 'on the road' and the book will be set elsewhere.  For example, one is set in Guatemala.

At the time the first one was published, Patricia Cornwell was a bestselling author. However, here came Kathy Reichs, who actually is a forensic anthropologist and a far better writer than Cornwell. To me, her books were a marvel at the time.

We were down to 15 people this year, since snow kept Jo's brother and his

to playing the traditional game of "Are You A Werewolf?"
