Amy Brenneman is more of a mainstream actress, having starred in TV shows such as Private Practice and Judging Amy.
Neither of which I have seen. In fact, according to her IMDb page (fun fact: when I open a new window and start typing "www." the IMDb is the first option that pops up. Guess I look at it a lot), the only thing she's been in that I might have seen her in was "Robot Chicken". Which doesn't help.
But you've not seen Neverwhere based on Neil Gaiman's novel?
I haven't, and I might be wrong but I think you have the basis backwards; that is, that the novel is based on the series.
It's a BBC classic, with Paterson Joseph starring as the Marquis de Carabas. The crazy thing is that when I saw the film of Titus Andronicus starring Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange, I kept looking at the actress playing Lavinia, Laura Fraser, and finally remember why she seemed so familiar: she'd played Door in Neverwhere! Peter Capaldi was the Angel of Islington in Neverwhere.
I personally have never felt any real urge to see it, though I did give the DVD as a christmas gift a few years aback.
We get a number of HBO and Showtime programmes on either basic Sky/cable channels or freeview, such as Channel 4 or the Beeb. I sometimes forget that they are premium channels in North America. I never paid extra for them there myself.

I've never felt an urge to get HBO either. So far, they haven't advertised any shows I've ever wanted to see that badly.
