It was indeed a memorable vent! Having been a church secretary once, I
can really appreciate your beating your head on the desk!
Something much milder that happened to me once, when I was
unintentionally the instigator, was when an ambulance arrived, loudly,
at the house across the highway from me. Obviously the situation was in
hand by the time I noticed anything, the paramedics having arrived, so I
didn't go over there (nosily)("to see whether the was anything that I
could do"). The people who lived there were a middle-aged woman and her
elderly mother: I knew the lady, but we were not at all close. Later
that day, I was asked about it when I went to the Post Office, and I
told them all I knew, basically nothing, but I did say that the
ambulance came in screaming, and went out silent-- implications being
that either the person that it came for was dead, or that there was
really not a problem at all, and no hurry getting back to where it came
from. Later I heard back that what I said was that someone had come out
of the house screaming! ;^) Obvious how my figure of speech got
distorted! But embarrassing, both to me and to the lady who lived there.
