Even if that hadn't been a factor, there was a certain amount of homicidal rage directed at various bakers with poor communication skills. Really poor communications skills. AMAZINGLY poor communications skills. Think "four months to call us back" levels of bad communications skills being *the best example*. On top of prices equal to our entire booze budget. I actually still get seriously angry whenever I think about them. I quickly reached a point in the process where I was not only ready to give up cake at the wedding, but actively boycott all cake forever. Just because.
Fortunately, the folks at the grocery store were friendly, accommodating, and well stocked when we wandered in. I still smile whenever I think about them.
