What I'm finding from a quick Google is that, yes, he self-published the
ebook. (I didn't know there was a paperback until now; I don't think
there is one in the UK. An Amazon.co.uk check shows the paperback is an
expensive import.)

But what I'm not finding is that Tor dropped him. Maybe Jenny knows?

I did read that the digital rights to his books had never been sold, so
he owns them. Is he taking advantage of owning those rights by
publishing his back catalog digitally and publishing the new one this
way?

In other words, is he self-publishing because he can't get a major house
to publish him or because he doesn't want to have a major house
publishing him? Is he stuck or is it a choice? :)
