Ah cool. Thanks! I didn't think that Triskell was self-publishing.
I think it's his adult books that Triskell is publishing as ebooks.

I read somewhere (in his newsletter, I think) that he prefers
the creative freedom of independent publishing.

I may or may not check it out at some point. I've mostly lost interest in his writing in the last several years. The quality, in my opinion, was getting lower and lower. I kind of think that's why he's self-publishing now.
I wonder whether your issues with his recent stuff might have more to do with the fact that he's been doing a lot of young adult books/stories rather than adult?
What I'm finding from a quick Google is that, yes, he self-published the
ebook. (I didn't know there was a paperback until now; I don't think
there is one in the UK. An Amazon.co.uk check shows the paperback is an
expensive import.)
But what I'm not finding is that Tor dropped him. Maybe Jenny knows?
I did read that the digital rights to his books had never been sold, so
he owns them. Is he taking advantage of owning those rights by
publishing his back catalog digitally and publishing the new one this
way?
In other words, is he self-publishing because he can't get a major house
to publish him or because he doesn't want to have a major house
publishing him? Is he stuck or is it a choice? :)

Triskell Press is publishing the upcoming paper version in the
US. That's self-publishing, isn't it?

That too. I believe that's a limited edition hard cover, isn't
it?
I don't think this book is of lesser quality than his older
books in general. I enjoyed it more than some of them.

They do that indeed, but some of those books have won or been finalists for the World Fantasy Award.
The American and Canadian ebook and paperback versions of the book are self-published, I believe. I was under the impression the PS Publishing edition was something similar to what he's done with Subterranean Press before, a premium, hardcover, limited edition.MattOn Wed, Nov 1, 2017 at 5:13 PM, Ellen Rawson <ellenr@fastmail.com> wrote:Is it self-published? Yes, I finished it a bit ago and liked it. I was a little uncertain at
first, but it grew on me very quickly and I realised how much I missed
new CdL writing!
Are we ready to talk about it? :)
