In addition to the copious amounts of fanfic I am also reading and sometimes writing, lately I've been rereading the first book in Jane Lindskold's Firekeeper series, and I'm about halfway through Tim Gallagher's non-fiction book _The Grail Bird_ about the search for proof of the continuing existence of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker.
I have a great deal of interest in the idea that some recently extinct animals might still exist in small populations - I've seen some intriguing circumstantial evidence for the existence of Tasmanian Tigers, which, while I wouldn't yet call compelling, I desperately want to be accurate. _The Grail Bird_, being an account of the successful rediscovery of an animal once thought extinct, is right up my alley. I've watched both the raw Luneau video and Cornell's frame by frame analysis several times. I think it's amazing that this incredible, striking bird could have remained hidden for the better part of a century and yet still be hanging on.
