Status update. Except that I can't remember what my status was the last
time I posted anything about myself.

I got married in 2007 to someone I first met about 40 years ago. She
was married to someone else at the time. They split up and we all lost
contact until someone arranged a party and invited us all. Mary got
invited because the party was at her house, which she shared with her
daughter Melica.

We clicked immediately but as a 50 something batchelor it took me quite
a while to get around to doing the proposal thing and actually getting
hitched.

Since then I have spent most of my time out of work punctuated by brief
short-term but well-paid and interesting contracts. The last break was
three and a half years unemployed, but I started a new job a few weeks
ago. It was originally supposed to be a few weeks work documenting a
company's IT systems. Now it looks as if two of us will possibly be
tearing it down and rebuilding all of the systems - depending on what
happened at the board meeting today.

During that last break from work Mary's daughter moved 200 miles North
from Essex to Manchester to be with her young man. Melica's father, Bob,
sold his house and moved up too. Bob has mostly lost his sight due to
diabetes so Mary has been taking a share of the carer duties. So I sold
my place in London and we
bought a place in Manchester too. To be precise it's in Levenshulme
which is pretty much exactly half way between the city centres of
Manchester and Stockport.

Now of course I've got a job back down in London so I'm commuting down
on Sunday evenings and back after work on Fridays.
