:) I hoping that someone with time on his or her hands takes clips from the upcoming new Dr. Who and shifts dialogue from Peter Capaldi's Malcolm Tucker character to Peter Capaldi playing the Doctor.

A big thank you and hugs to all of you, especially to Matt and Jax for saying I'm nice. :)

Donna, I can't believe that Lucy is going to be a senior in college. Oh my. And it sucks that you've not been employed as a permanent teacher. Teachers over here can't retire until at least age 60; younger teachers can't retire until 65 now.  Had I stayed in Colorado, I could be retired now with 80% of my final pay. *sigh* Here, I'll be working for as long as they'll let me, I fear. Retirement seems like some mythical dream.

But hang in there! My sister-in-law in Philly, she who burned out as a librarian and then, years later, at age 60, was laid off from her next career, embarked on a third career, training as an indexer whilst temping. She'd just turned 63 and got an interview with a British publishing firm that had just opened its first US office -- in Philly. My brother told her not to get her hopes up, figuring she was fortunate, at her age, to get an interview. However, they hired her. Three years later, she's still there. Her story gives me hope.

Ian's still job hunting. He can tell you more, but he's doing some relief management at a couple of local Red Cross charity stores (thrift shops). He's come close to getting charity management jobs, but he's still building up his retail experience. *sigh* With lots of shops going out of business, there's a lot of competition for any sort of retail management jobs.

Let's see, what am I reading. For fun books, I'm enjoying some recommendations from Amanda, the Tenzing Norbu mysteries. I'm currently on book two, The Second Rule of Ten, by Gay Hendricks and Tinker Lindsay. I need to get to the library to pick up Scott Lynch's The Lies of Loch Lamora, which I'd reserved. For work, I'm reading Jay Parini's biography of Robert Frost and Sarah Churchwell's Careless People.

For music, we're just home from a fun night out at the Art House in Southampton. It's an actual house that's been converted into a coffee shop/cafe (all vegetarian food, lots of locally sourced ingredients etc.) and (small) music venue. The Art House is very comfortable to me; it gives off 'Boulder'-type vibes. (And Ian likes the locally brewed beer they serve. :)  Anyway, they have good music, and tonight is Nick Pynn and Kate Daisy Grant. Shows there are intimate and inexpensive -- and usually quite good. Tonight's performance was excellent.

We may go see Guardians of the Galaxy this weekend. We have some free tickets waiting for us at our favourite cinema, it's playing there and the Guardian newspaper, which is very picky about films, gave it four stars. Wow. Lucy (the film) hasn't opened over here yet.
