Hi All,

Attached are the minutes from the latest meeting
Monique will follow up with her letter for our newest action against  employers who for some reason don't think they need to pay overtime!!!

Monique and or Matahari general will now be organizing meetings. After approximately  1 year 8 months,  we have changed our meeting dynamic to assure all groups take part in the organizing/responsibility.
Meetings will be every third Saturday at 150 Mt. Vernon St. Dorchester.   We  will have food, babysitting and did I mention FOOD!

Meeting will have a half hour orientation, then the meeting for about 2 hours!

f.       Getting there was a hard

D.  Next Steps

1)     Need to choose a partner organization for the legislative drafting

a.     Based on the following criteria (a growing list)

                                          i.     Diversity

ii.    Capacity to work with community

iii.    Knows importance of checking in

b.    NELP and GBLS were suggested

2)     Time Line

a.     By August 30th all orgs would have circulated the Convention Feedback to their members and hope to have supplemented it as much as possible (Notes we have so far and some legal analysis are attached).  Anyone can review and make a suggestion!  We just ask that all feedback be given to Monique (english), Lydia (portuguese) or Olga (Spanish) by August 30th

b.    By first week of September meet with suggested policy/legislative drafters

3)     To Do Right NOW

-       Email GBLS and NELP to set up times to meet the Coalition

-

-4) Organizing a Public Campaign/ Nat  Smaller Campaigns we can do to raise awareness

-       Nat summarized some things she has learned about policy and campaigning that we need to keep in mind. She also explained with a chart (Daphne has a pic about the process) the potential places where the bill could die

-       We need to make sure we get sponsors not supports

-       Submit in both houses and move it along in both houses

-       We have two years so we need to make sure it doesn't die and know the people would could kill it and organize pressure points

-       President of the Sen is one of the people that could destroy it, as a result we did not send a letter to her

-       Key cities are Springfield Cape Cod

-       Need to meet and get to know Senate aides

-       Paty suggested a party to invite the aides and noted that the elections are close and they may be inclined to come

-       Messaging is important,

-       Must define ourselves before we are defined

-       Consider national's approach about "CARE"

-       Meet with unions, nanny agencies

o    Lydia met with SEIU1199 who seems very interested in support the Bill but is focused on the elections right now

-       Opposition

o    AARP, Disabiltiy community, family independt living, and agencies came out agains the bills in NY and CA

-Belmont Case and others coming down the line for organizing

-       BELMONT was a success and a great campaign for the coalition.

-       Clinic took legal and the coalition organized in Belmont on the streets

    - MH letter

            -New case for organizing

-Clinic is representing worker and court date is October 4

-MH drafted a letter and asked for groups to sign on,

            - MH dated the letter September 3, 2012

-MH cc'd the Dean of Tufts University

-MH will have Coalition members sign and then post online for a petition for other orgs to sign on

E.  Planning future meetings,

             - MH will now take over the monthly meetings for six months.

-With that MH will coordinate baby sitting, food, set the agenda, send reminders, take minutes and send out the minutes.

- Lydia has done  it for almost two years.

-Meetings will continue to be on Saturdays.

-All groups will be responsible for turning out workers and organizers

F. Photo Project with Mario Queiroz

-Mario Queiroz has done several projects for immigrants. Black and white photos. The most recent one is on display and was in partnership with Centro Presente, Dominican Development Center, and MIRA and CPA

-Mario would like to do a project on Domestic Workers. A portrait project where in the workers are in their Sunday Best.

-Mario noted he is looking for partners from the Coalition

-Any group interested should contact him at  info@marioquiroz.com
www.marioquiroz.com
