ATLANTA PROJECT DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:                 Atlanta Project Director

Position:                  Full-time with a 3-month probationary period; a 2-year commitment is expected

Reports To:             Field Director

Location:                 The Atlanta Project Director will operate from Atlanta, GA

 

Position Summary:

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (www.domesticworkers.org) organizes domestic workers in the United States for respect, recognition and labor standards. Through leadership development, strategic campaigns and alliance building, we seek to help build a powerful movement for social and global justice.  The Alliance formed in 2007 at the US Social Forum and currently represents 35 affiliate organizations in 18 cities and 12 states nationally.

 

The Atlanta Project Director will be responsible in leading the overall development of the domestic worker organizing project in Atlanta, including developing and overseeing the base-building and organizing programs, supporting organizing staff and developing strategic alliances.

 

Responsibilities:

·       Provide visionary leadership to guide and develop the Atlanta domestic worker organizing project

·       Develop and implement base-building, leadership development and campaign strategies for Atlanta domestic worker organizing

·       Establish a membership and organizational structure

·       Supervise Atlanta Domestic Worker Organizer 

·       Cultivate strategic alliances and relationships with institutions and individuals that advance the work of the project in Atlanta

·       Lead collaboration and exchange with Southern NDWA members and allies

·       Represent the project publicly

·       Coordinate with NDWA national staff in managing project operations, fundraising, and organizational development.

 

Job Requirements

·       Minimum 5 years organizing experience;

·       Experience leading base-building, leadership development and organizing campaigns and implementing a range of organizing strategies and tactics;

·       Understanding of issues facing low-wage workers, immigrant and African-American communities, and other communities of color;

·       Experience building broad-based coalitions;

·       Experience with supervision;

·       Excellent communication skills and organizational skills;

·       Self-motivated—proven ability to work independently;

·       Dedication and ability to work flexible hours;

·       Proficiency with computer operations and programs;

·       Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus but not required.
