I seem to remember that this also applied generally to the fae. Without
permission, they couldn't enter your home. I don't remember if that was
something I picked up from a novel or if it's from a particular folklore
tradition. it also could be something that just kinda mutated in my brain
from vampires to fae. Does anyone know if this restriction was ever
thought to apply to the fae as well as vampires?

What comes to mind for me, without any research, is that you encourage them to come by leaving out gifts - which is kind of inviting them, I guess?
