I haven't tried to count or guesstimate mine. Even measuring and
totaling the feet of shelf space would be difficult, besides the fact
that books are many different thicknesses and stacked on shelves many
different ways (eg, paperbacks, which I have sometimes literally stacked
on bookshelves, up to the height of the next shelf, double-shelved and
taking up six inches of shelf space). Those shelves which are deep
enough are all double-shelved, some of them with the bigger hardcovers
in front of paperbacks. And I have way too many books for the shelves.
I keep trying to take some that I know I'll never read again in
grocery bags to the used book store, and usually return with somewhat
fewer than the book store would keep (they reject a few, and I buy a few
while I'm there).

There's an amazing page on FaceBook called "No, I do NOT have too many
books!" with a collection of photographs startlingly reminiscent of my
house. But funny!

You may need to be a FB member to see it. I don't know.
