Here is my celebrity story:
Many, many years ago I went to a one-day Star Trek convention in Erie,
Pennsylvania (where I am, as it happens, going today). The guest of
honor was Nichelle Nichols. At one point in the day, the wife of the
couple I was with and I ducked into the ladies room. It suddenly got
kind of quiet, and when I came out of the stall, everyone was just
standing around staring.
"She's in there!" my friend mouthed at me.
Really? Really?? The poor woman has to go to the bathroom and you're
all standing around staring at the STALL? REALLY?!? So...I made a
point of NOT staring, washed my hands, and left. I knew she was
coming out to wash her own hands as I was drying mine, but I never
looked and kept going. I wanted to at least give her a LITTLE privacy
since no one else was.
And, yeah, celebrities are probably used to that sort of thing, but it
just struck me as so rude.
