Guys. Here is the official update for our GaTHering in Portland the first week of August this year: We have only 12 room nights out of 40 booked. If I cancel right now, I will owe them $1500. If I wait and hope more people actually book their rooms late, it will cost more like $3000.
I'm sorry to say that it's looking very unlikely that I'll be able to make it out there for this. I just don't think I can afford it. Also, including this event, I managed to accidentally triple book myself for that weekend. Last I knew, I don't have the ability to tri-locate, or even bi-locate, so it would be very difficult to be at two things in Maine and one thing in Oregon at the same time. Careful planning may allow me to do two events in Maine that weekend. But I don't think they're letting civilians use super-sonic aircraft these days, so Oregon is going to be a stretch for me.
That said, though, Deb, what can we all do about the money issue? I really don't want to see you stuck with that huge bill. That is worrisome. I don't really understand how the hotel can do that to you, though I don't doubt that they can since they're telling you so.
