I've turned into one of those middle-aged guys who listens to old jazz records regularly. On slightly more contemporary side, the most recent Mekons, Gangstagrass, Zoë Keating and Das Racist have had a lot of play lately. I also continue to evangelize the awesomeness of Shilpa Ray every chance I get, and I have a distinct weakness for King Automatic.

I'd should have more variety in my diet. In my defense, radio is dead, too much mp3 tends to destroy my soul, and I live hell-and-gone away from a decent record store. I'm just in one of my periodic novelty slumps. If this works the normal way, that will probably end rapidly as I fall in love with eight new Favorite Bands Ever by summertime.

As a public service announcement: A friend told me to buy a copy of the new Lana Del Ray album. The next time I see that friend, I am going to keep punching him in the neck until I feel better. That album is the most derivative, 80's retro, mashed together, overproduced, whitebread crap it's been my distinct displeasure to hear in years. It's like No Doubt's ad agency did a mashup of Phil Collins solo albums with some talentless Cyndi Lauper impersonator they found at Comic-con. Jesus. If anyone actually bought CDs anymore, I'd bet money that Goodwill would be filled with that junk within a year.
