I love Leonard Cohen too. One artist I find similar (although it
might just be me) is Bruce Cockburn (pronounced Coburn get your minds
out of the gutter!). Cockburn has a similar style but isn't usually
quite as melancholy. Although my favourite of his, "Pacing the Cage"
is about as melancholy as you can get.
On the Leonard Cohen side I love his rather snarky "Everybody Knows":
