This morning the vet called with lab results for the tumor growing beneath our mare's jawline - it's thyroid cancer. Lunchtime conversations with the vet and the husband concluded that treatment is beyond our financial means. We'll continue to love her and keep her as happy as possible until it becomes painful or causes problems with her ability to swallow or breathe.
Then, this afternoon, I got an email from the local university saying a spot opened up in their English Ph.D. program, so I'm off the wait list and accepted as a direct admit doctoral student. Tuition waived, stipend included, five year fast-track to degree.
If life spins me around any faster, I think I'm gonna puke.
- Kel, still a little numb
sorry about your mare; if it is any consolation - thyroid cancers tend to be slow growing.
I do feel very badly that you and she have to deal with it at all.
And Congratulations on your acceptance; very impressive.
