However, it's not one of the popular ones. I also rather like the Rollrights and its accompanying stones nearby, such as the Whispering Knights, in Oxfordshire. There's a great story about the Rollright stone with a hole in it. That's where the last fairy seen in England disappeared -- through that hole. And even though there are a number of famous circles in Cornwall, I rather like a cairn we discovered -- right by a farm with a pottery set up. There were prices by the pots, mugs and pitchers -- with an honesty box. Well, it is in the middle of rural Cornwall. :)

It is quite possibly as significant as Stonehenge and some very interesting burials are around it. I live about 12 miles away. Until a couple of years ago I didn't even know it existed and we are currently trying to stop an open caste mining company from doing unspeakable things to the landscape immediately surrounding it. Its amazing how things in a certain part of the country get loads of press and media attention while those in other parts of the country don't. (I know Stone Henge looks more dramatic and iconic but it does seem to be true in general.)

There wasn't a big media ado when the Priddy earthworks in Somerset were damaged last year. :( The Indy did cover it somewhat, though.

Yes, there is something about Glastonbury. I really am not sure why, maybe its all the legend and the emotion it has gathered around itself over the centuries, but there really is something. A lot of nutters there, mind :-)
